Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has launched a social security scheme 'Mukhyamantri COVID-19 Parivar Sahayak Sahayata Yojana' to provide financial assistance to the families who have lost their next of kin to COVID-19. Under the scheme, an ex gratia of Rs 50,000 will be given to each family that has lost a member to COVID-19 and an additional Rs 2,500 per month if the deceased was the sole breadwinner of the family. The Chief Minister has also launched a portal for this scheme.

2. What is 'SwabSeq'?

Answer – Testing Platform

A team of scientists from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has reported real-world results on a testing platform, SwabSeq. It uses sequencing to test thousands of samples at a time to detect the coronavirus. They were able to perform more than 80,000 tests in less than two months with high sensitivity and specificity. SwabSeq uses sample-specific molecular barcodes to analyze thousands of samples at once.

DBT-National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBMG), Kalyani is an autonomous institute funded by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. DBT-NIBMG has developed a database of genomic variations in oral cancer named dbGENVOC. It is the first database of its kind in the world. It is a free, browseable online database with a powerful built-in search engine.
